Formula 1 is an FIA World Championship open wheel racing series. The teams are required to build bespoke race cars. As such, F1 has some of the most advanced technology and engineering in motorsports. The level of sophistication requires there is a scrutineer assigned to each car. With a lengthy and unique parc fermé process, F1 scrutineers will find themselves on duty for a significant period of time.
The World Endurance Championship (WEC) is a multi-class endurance race. The volunteer technical staff include Scrutineers, Tyre Checkers, and Garage/Pit Observers.
Endurance races generally last 4 to 24 hours, and require significant physical endurance from everyone involved. Often fire suits and helmets are required for the duration of the event.
Formula E is a FIA World Championship Electric Open Wheel series. The series runs a condensed format that generally limits the number of days required, but the condensed schedule can result in a faster pace to the work required. The series also has safety requirements that differ from many other series.
MotoGP may have half the number of wheels, but the level of , engineering is world class. The volunteer tech team is comprised of Garage Scrutineers, Technical Control and Moto2/3 Tire Checkers. MotoGP provides significant variety to the required duties, which makes for a very engaging experience.
